What to check when you compare tote rentals
- Size and rating. Each Latchcrate crate holds 2.5 cubic feet and has a published load rating up to 100 pounds.
- Days covered. A 2-week rental covers 15 calendar days, delivery day through pickup day. A 1-week rental covers up to 8 days.
- Dollies. Every package includes 1 to 3 tote dollies at no extra charge.
- Both addresses. Delivery and pickup are free when your old and new addresses are both in our 19 Seacoast towns.
- Booking. Pick your dates, see the full price online, and pay through Stripe before anything is scheduled.

We deliver moving crates to Portsmouth, New Castle, Rye, Greenland, and Newington. Moving inside Portsmouth or out to the beach towns? Book one rental, with delivery at the old place and pickup at the new one.
Dover and nearby
We deliver moving crates to Dover, Durham, Madbury, Lee, and Barrington. The 1-week Studio, 1-Bedroom, and 2-Bedroom packages fit a quick apartment-to-apartment move.
Exeter and nearby
We deliver moving crates to Exeter, Stratham, Newfields, Newmarket, Epping, Hampton, Hampton Falls, North Hampton, and Seabrook. Packing a whole house? The 3-Bedroom and 4-Bedroom packages come with 60 or 85 crates for 2 weeks, and a custom rental can run up to 8 weeks.

How a crate rental works
- Reserve online. Pick a package, your delivery date, and your pickup date. We confirm arrival windows after you book.
- Pack. Fill each crate and close the attached lid. No tape needed.
- Move. Stack crates on the dollies and move your belongings with your own truck and helpers.
- Return. Unpack, nest the empty crates, and we pick them up at your new address.
Latchcrate supplies the boxes. You pack, load, drive, and unpack.

Yes. Latchcrate rents blue reusable moving totes with attached lids, delivered and picked up free in Dover, Portsmouth, Exeter, and 16 more Seacoast towns. We call them crates, and they do the same job as a moving tote or a plastic moving box.

How big is each moving crate?+
Each blue HDPE crate measures 27.3 by 17.2 by 12.6 inches outside, holds 2.5 cubic feet, and weighs 7.7 pounds empty. The published load rating is up to 100 pounds, so pack each crate only to a weight you can safely lift.
How many moving crates do I need?+
Start with 20 crates for a studio, 30 for a 1-bedroom, 40 for a 2-bedroom, 60 for a 3-bedroom, and 85 for a 4-bedroom. Books and dishes fill crates by weight and clothes fill them by volume, so add crates if you own a lot of either. The build-your-own rental goes up to 120 crates.
Are dollies included?+
Yes. The Studio and 1-Bedroom packages include 1 tote dolly, the 2-Bedroom and 3-Bedroom packages include 2, and the 4-Bedroom package includes 3.
How long can I keep the crates?+
You pick the delivery date and the pickup date. A 1-week rental covers up to 8 days, and a 2-week rental covers up to 15 calendar days. A build-your-own rental runs 20 to 120 crates for 1 to 8 weeks, and 1-week rentals are for up to 40 crates.
Can I rent moving crates for just one week?+
Yes. The Studio, 1-Bedroom, and 2-Bedroom packages come as 1-week rentals for $99, $119, and $149, with 20, 30, or 40 crates. A 1-week rental covers up to 8 days. Rentals of more than 40 crates start at 2 weeks.
How does the $100 deposit work?+
Checkout charges a separate $100 refundable deposit. After pickup we check the crates, and the deposit goes back to your card within 5 business days. Normal wear is fine.
What can I pack in the crates?+
Ordinary household goods are fine. Keep out liquids, food, and anything wet, sticky, or messy, and send the crates back empty and clean.
Do I need tape or a box cutter?+
No. The two lid halves stay attached to each crate and close in the middle, so nothing needs taping or folding.
Is Latchcrate a moving company?+
No. Latchcrate rents reusable moving boxes. You arrange your own moving help, vehicle, and transportation.
